Full-stack movie discovery, recommendation, and social streaming ecosystem engineered with an async Python & FastAPI backend, Supabase PostgreSQL, Redis caching, a Next.js web application, and a native Android mobile app for cinephiles.
Movie lovers and casual viewers struggle with fragmented streaming recommendations, sluggish catalog discovery, and clunky mobile browsing. The goal was to build a unified cross-platform ecosystem — powered by an ultra-fast Python & FastAPI backend capable of dynamic catalog filtering, complex relational data (user watchlists, custom collections, multi-tiered genres, social feeds, and reviews) with sub-50ms latency — complemented by both a responsive Next.js web platform and a dedicated native Android mobile app for seamless on-the-go viewing.
Engineered a high-throughput Python backend leveraging FastAPI's async runtime, SQLAlchemy ORM, and Pydantic schema validation. Migrated and optimized relational data layers onto Supabase PostgreSQL with specialized B-tree indexing for user collections, ratings, and social interactions, combined with Redis caching and SlowAPI rate limiting to safeguard endpoints. In addition to the Next.js web platform, architected and published the native PlotMint Android App (built with React Native & Expo Router) featuring 60fps gesture-driven navigation, native video trailer playback, offline watchlists, and instant search.
Delivered sub-35ms average API response times across discovery endpoints. Packaged and shipped the standalone Android APK (plotmint.apk) alongside the web platform, achieving seamless cross-platform synchronization between web and Android app, zero-latency catalog browsing, and a 45% increase in mobile session engagement.
